Moosey-Moose Feeds the Birds

Hi Friends,

I know. I know. I have been saying for a super long time that I need to feed my bird friends.

Guess what? Today, I finally fed my bird friends!!

May 2011 - 1

I filled up two feeders like this one. Yum! Bird seed!

May 2011 - 7

Peek-a-boo! That’s a lot of bird seed. If I wanted to I could eat a whole bunch of bird seed all at one time. Each seed is super tiny.

Next, I had to climb a tree to get to one of my bird feeders. Good thing I have strong arms and hands and feet!

May 2011 - 2

I got to a branch that my bird feeder was hanging from. I slid myself across the stumpy branch.

May 2011 - 3

Whoa! I’m up super high! I better not look down any more.

May 2011 - 5

Finally, this feeder is done. I put two different kinds of seeds inside. One for bigger birds on the bottom and one for tiny birds like finches on the top. I hope this works. I’ve never tried that before.

May 2011 - 6

Wow! I was way up in the sky! I could have touched the clouds if I wanted to.

Whew! That chore is done. Now, I can go back to working on my book. I have more revisions and edits to make. Maybe one more try and then I can send it to agents and editors! Sleepy Bear is nagging me to hurry up and finish my book because he needs a new book to read. I told him he should find something else for about two more months and then mine will be ready.

Bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

I’ve been swamped reading all the chapter threes from Mrs. A’s classroom. They are really good! I also really like the illustrations. I’m going to put them into a notebook so I have them to give to my agent and editor, when I get an agent and an editor. Maybe they will use them in my book!

But first I have to finish my book. A friend of mine is reading it for me now. Kathleen told me that all good writers have other people read their work before sending it to agents and editors. So, now I sit and wait for my friend’s notes about how to make my book better.

Oh!I want to say “Hi” to Kylie in Mrs. A’s classroom. Thanks for liking my book so far! I hope it gets published, too.

I suppose while I’m waiting I could go outside and check my bird feeders. They might be a little empty now. Then I’ll take a break. Maybe Sleepy Bear will read to me. Or maybe I can plan my next adventure! I like that idea the best.

Moosey-Moose Gets Snail Mail!

Hi Friends,

I GOT SNAIL MAIL!!!!  That’s the old fashioned way of getting mail – from the postman.

Sleepy Bear and Moosey-Moose Get Mail

I think it is from my friends in Mrs. A.’s second grade class.

I wonder what they sent me. Maybe some pictures! Maybe an invitation to visit again! Maybe coupons for more GORP! Maybe …

Moosey-Moose Opens His Snail Mail

Sleepy Bear told me to stop guessing and just open the envelope.

Cool! I was a little bit right. I got pictures and questions and ideas for chapter 3!

Moosey-Moose Reads His Mail

I’d better get my pockets in my chair and get to work! My friends wrote some super chapters with great ideas!

When my book is finished I want to ask my agent or editor to use these pictures. Well, first I need to get an agent or an editor.

Kathleen tells me that’s not easy. But, I always like an adventure!

Thanks to all my writing buddies in Mrs. A.’s class and a super duper thanks to Mrs. A!

Moosey-Moose and His Classroom Visit

Hi Friends,

Thursday was super fun! I read chapters 1 and 2 to Mrs. A.’s second grade classroom.  They really liked my story! They made great predictions and after chapter 2, they wanted to know more!

Mrs. A. asked them to write chapter 3. I can’t wait to read what they wrote. I bet they have great ideas!

I have to go write some more. Kathleen says all good writers write every day. Guess I’d better get my pockets in my chair! I learned that from Mrs. A.

Moosey-Moose Takes a Day Trip

Hi Friends,

Well, you probably heard by now that Sleepy Bear is going to visit his book buddies tomorrow. They are in Mrs. A’s second grade classroom.

I found out because I saw his calendar on Kathleen’s desk.

Moosey-Moose Checks Sleepy Bear Calendar

I want to go, too,  but he didn’t’ ask me. So, I did something tricky.  I added my name to the calendar.  That means I get to go, too!

I’m taking chapters 1 and 2 of my book with me to read to the students. They can give me ideas about how to make my book even better!

Be sure to check back tomorrow and the next day when I tell you all about my day adventure!

Moosey-Moose Revises His Book

Hi Friends,

I’m super busy working on my novel.  It’s about me and my adventures.  Well, one of my adventures.

Moosey-Moose Revises and Edits - 1

I finally finished the first manuscript.  That’s what a book is called before it becomes a book on a bookshelf.

Now I have to read it and make changes.  I like it just the way it is.

But Kathleen, my reading and writing teacher, says it needs work.  I would rather feed my birds and make more pine cone bird feeders.  But I also want to see my book on the shelf in a big bookstore. Kathleen said I have to do the work to get the reward. She’s super smart.

So, I’m busy busy at the computer.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress.  Some days it’s super slow going.  But some days I feel good about my story.

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

I’ve been so busy with my pine cone bird feeders that I forgot to answer my mail!

But guess what?  The mail isn’t really for me.  It’s for my reading and writing teacher, Kathleen.  She used to teach in a school.  She taught kids in third and fourth grade. Some of them write to me and some of them ask me to give Kathleen a message, too.  Kathleen still teaches but she works from home.  She tutors kids. That means she teaches kids but not in a big classroom.  She works from home.  Kathleen also helps me write my book.  More about that later.

Back to mail for Kathleen.  Jahmara, Isau, Chalise and Zeena all wrote to her.  They really miss Kathleen at the school.  I would miss her, too! Kathleen says hello back and says to study hard and keep up the good work!

Oh, about my book.  I finished the first draft.  That means it is finished but I have to read it and make sure it makes sense and all the words are spelled right, especially the big ones!

Be sure to check back later.  I’ll tell you more about my book and about my bird feeders!

Bye for now,
