Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Wow! This is great that I get tons of mail but I miss traveling, too. I need to go somewhere cool. But first, I'll answer my mail.

Alaina, I'm really glad you like my blog. It's super cool that I get to travel and have adventures and then I get to blog about them. Sometimes my adventures get me into big trouble. Like the time I used the computer to order a bunch of presents. That didn't turn out so good for me. Or the time I left Sleepy Bear to do all my chores last summer. That wasn't cool either. Oh, have you met Sleepy Bear? He has his own blog, too. He thinks he's really smart because he has a book club for kids.

Adnel, I don't know if I'll be in Sleepy Bear's book club. I'm not a very good reader. Are you going to join his book club? I will if you will.

My pet dog is doing good. He poops a lot and I have to scoop it up. I don't like that. But he's a good friend.

Grace asked me what I want for Christmas. Well, I want lots of things. Can I get back to you on that one?

I hope it snows so I can make snow angels and a snowman again.

Well, that's it for now.

Moosey-Moose Gets a New Present!

Hi Everybody,

Look what I got! This is super cool! It's like Christmas already. This is a present I got from Isau. The box is very interesting.

Hey! Look what was inside. A puppy! The note says Isau made it. I guess I have a pet now. And it's not a cat. That's the best part.

I think we kind of look alike. What should I call it? Will you help me think of a name?
Thanks, Isau. I really like my new puppy and it's super special because you made it for me.
I'm going to take my puppy for a walk.

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

This is cool! I got lots of mail. I think I even got more than Sleepy Bear! That must mean I'm super cool.

Well, my favorite holiday is Christmas because I get lots presents! Except last year I went shopping on the computer and, well, that didn't turn out so good for me. I got in trouble, too. Boy, I'm never going to do that again!

I don't know about NATE THE GREAT. I only know how to read a little. Sleepy Bear tried to get me to read last year but I'm not very good at it so I don't do it.

Grace, I looked at the website about frogs. Uhhhm, I don't think I really like frogs. Why do you like frogs? I don't have any pets. Well, except for the ones that Kathleen has. She has three cats. They are so annoying. They meow all the time and they scratch stuff and I think they have bad breath, too.

Debbie asked for a picture of Sleepy Bear and me. I don't have one but I'll ask Kathleen if she can take one of us. Sleepy Bear is shy so he might not want to do it. I'll let you know.

Well, I have a new present to open. It's a big box! I'll tell you all about it later.

Moosey-Moose Visits His Relatives!

Hi Friends,

Guess what Kathleen and I did this weekend.

We got to visit my relatives! Yup, we got to see some reindeer. They were visiting Swanson's Nursery over the weekend and I got to get up close and say hello. The reindeer's hair is not as soft as mine but they have really cool colors. I want some bells like theirs, too.

This is me visiting another relative. He's eating lunch in the pen. Oh, do you notice my really cool boots? Thanks Jahmara for crocheting them for me. And thanks, Vy, for my scarf. I really needed them because it was super cold outside.
Oh, if you want to visit some reindeer nearby, you can also go to Reindeer Express. They have a website, too. It's www.reindeerexpress.org. And if you want to go to Swanson's nursery to visit my relatives look at their website to find out when they have to go back home. It's www.swansonsnursery.com.
Well, bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Gets Presents!

Wow! Looks like Santa came early this year! I'm getting all kinds of cool things from my readers.

I got letters! I got mittens! I got slippers! I got a pouch to put them all in! I got a scarf! I even got a backpack tag so if I loose my backpack on one of my adventures, someone will know who to return it to! How cool is that?

And everything fits perfectly. I think it's time for me to change out of my summer t-shirt and put on my winter sweater.
Thanks a whole bunch to Grace, Caleb, Vy, Brianna, Jahmara, and Liz.
I'm going to go show Sleepy Bear!

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Everyone,

Wow! Did you have thunder and lightening last night? We had both and lots of rain that hit against the windows. It was super cool! But Sleepy Bear didn't think so. He was scared.

Well, I'm finally going to sit down and answer some of my mail.

Luis asked me if I like butterflies and birds. Yup. I think they're cool, especially birds. Which reminds me, I need to check my bird feeders. I hope they didn't get blown away last night in the storm.

Someone asked me if I like NATE THE GREAT. Well... uhm... Yeah! I like them a lot. I've read all of the books.

Oh. Wait. I almost forgot! I have a lot of letters and presents to open, still. I think it's stuff made from yarn because I can see a super tiny piece of yarn sticking out of one of the letters. Cool! I wonder what's inside! I'll open them all today and then I'll show you tomorrow what I got. I'd better not tell Sleepy Bear. He might get mad.

I have to go now.

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

This is super cool! I have lots of mail to answer.

Someone asked me if I was scared when I went parasailing in Cabo last yer. Yeah, I was a little bit scared, but not enough to keep me from trying it. And I'm glad I did because I had a blast!

Grace said she's making a tag for my backpack. That's a good idea for me to label my stuff when I travel. I've been lucky so far because I haven't lost anything - yet.

Lizbeth asked me if I like to draw. I like to draw a little bit. I don't think I'm very good at it so I don't do it much.

Isau asked me what 52+52 is. It's 104! Did I get it right?

Sleepy Bear is trying to get me to read again. I tried it last year because I wanted to read a book to Kathleen for her Christmas present. But I haven't read since then. Reading is too hard so I don't do it much.

OK, well, I gotta go now. Thanks for the mail!

Moosey-Moose Goes Swimming

Hi Friends,

Yesterday Grace said she had swimming lessons. That reminded me that I had swimming lessons, too. Swimming is a cool sport and it's great exercise.

First I have to push my turtle floaty across the patio and into the pool. Good thing my muscles are really strong.
Finally I get my floaty into the pool and the hard work begins. I have to use my hooves to paddle myself around the pool. Sometimes I have to take a break.

Whew! That was a hard workout. Now I get to rest while my hair dries.
Tell me what is your favorite sport to get exercise and we can compare notes.

Moosey-Moose and Sleepy Bear Are Friends Again

Hi Friends,

You were right. Sleepy Bear accepts my apology! I never thought I would miss Sleepy Bear so much but I did. I'm never going to play a trick like that again on my best friend.

Sleepy Bear is pretty cool! And I'm lucky to have him as my friend.

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi,

I haven't written in a while. I've been waiting for Sleepy Bear to read my letter to him. I hope he forgives me. I know he's been sick, too, so maybe he's waiting to feel better before he tells me that he accepts his apology.

So, I'm just waiting, at home, answering my mail.

Someone asked if they could call me Moosey instead of Moosey-Moose. Well, thanks for asking me first but I like my whole name. I think it sounds cool and it all goes together.

I want to go on another adventure but I don't know where to go. Last year at this time I was in Cabo San Lucas. That's on the Baja Peninsula. You can read all about my trip on my blog. Ahhhh... that was so much fun. But for now, I'm stuck at home.

I hope you write to me so I have something to do while I wait for Sleepy Bear.

Bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Apologizes

Hi,

One of my friends who writes to me said Sleepy Bear would probably forgive me for leaving him to do all my chores while I went on an adventure if I tell him I'm really sorry. I hope she's right. Kathleen helped me to write an apology letter. I got some of the letters backwards but Sleepy Bear is a smart bear so I think he will know what I meant. I also got him this cool plant. It eats bugs. I hope he forgives me.

Wish me luck.

Moosey-Moose's Last Night In Portland

Hi Friends,

I'm exhausted! Walking all around Portland is hard work. But to tell you the truth, I'm getting kind of lonely here all by myself. Well, OK, I'm feeling a little bit bad because I left Sleepy Bear at home to do all my chores. It seemed like a fun trick at the time. But now I just feel bad. I'm going to finish munching on my trail mix and watch a movie then I'll go to sleep. Tomorrow I'll go back home to Seattle. I hope Sleepy Bear isn't too mad at me.
Wish me luck when I get home.

Moosey-Moose Has Wheels!

Hey! Look at me! This is a super cool way to get around town.

It's like a bicycle car. There's only one problem. My legs are too short. Shucks, what am I going to do?

Moosey-Moose Eats Gelato!

Hi,

I finally made it out of Powell's Bookstore but only after I got lost a few more times. I found books about bugs, snakes, dinosaurs, plants, pasta, how to make buildings, music, and a whole bunch more stuff! I must have walked around for hours just trying to find my way out of the store. But finally, I found my way back to the center of Portland. By that time I was hungry.

This is me eating a huge scoop of Italian ice cream called gelato! It's better than any old regular ice cream. You should try some if you every have the chance. Yummmy!

Hey, have you heard from Sleepy Bear? Is he super mad at me for leaving town?

Bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Visits Powell's Bookstore!

Howdy Travel Friends!

This is me inside the super duper huge bookstore in Portland called Powell's. It's so huge I got lost! That's why you haven't heard from me in a few days. But, I'm back.

This is me sitting on top of a shelf of books. Behind me is the kids' section. All the sections, are color coded. That's why you see the sign behind me that says "Rose."

I'm going to go browse around. Hope I don't get lost again!

Moosey-Moose and His Huge Snack

Hi,

I did a lot of sightseeing today and I burned a lot of calories. So, I decided I earned this mondo-big chocolate chip cookie! The best part is I don't have to share it with anybody. That's super cool!

Next, I'm going to Powell's - the huge bookstore I Portland.

Moosey-Moose on the Portland Waterfront

Hi Friends,

Look at me!! This is me looking through a telescope. I put a quarter into the coin collector and then I got to see the city up close but far away at the same time.
This is bridge that splits in half and then both halves move up to let ships and boats go through. That's only for the really tall boats.

This is the waterway and some hotel buildings in the back.

The weather is a little bit cloudy but it's not cold at all. I'm having a great time! This is waaaay better than cleaning cat boxes and filling up bird feeders and sweeping floors at home. But remember, don't tell Sleepy Bear what I did!
Check back later for more pictures of my adventures in Portland.

Where In Portland is Moosey-Moose?

Hi Traveling Friends,

I finally arrived in Portland! It took me 3 whole hours.

Where should I go first? I can travel from west to east.

Or, I can travel from the east side of town to the west side of town. Hmmmm... One direction will take me to Powell's, the really huge bookstore. The other direction will take me to the water and cool sightseeing stuff.
Where to go first??
Check back soon to read all about where my map takes me.

UH OH! Moosey-Moose Skips Out on His Chores!

Hi Friends,

Isn't this the coolest? I got tired of doing all of Sleepy Bear's chores, and besides, summer is almost over; I couldn't spend it doing chores. So, I took the last chance I had to go on an adventure.

This is me on the dashboard of the car on the way to Portland, Oregon! Can you find it on a map? If I leave Seattle and drive to Portland, how many miles is that?

Am I there yet?

Check back soon for more about my Portland adventure!

Moosey-Moose Does Sleepy Bear's Chores

Hi Friends,

I've been washing dishes all day. My fur is soaking wet. Too bad the weather isn't hot like last week. I could have gone swimming in the dish water and taken a bath at the same time!

I don't know which chore I'll do next. Maybe I can take the rest of the day off! Don't tell Sleepy Bear.

Moosey-Moose Does Chores - for a Month!

Hi Friends,

What a miserable way to spend the last month of my summer vacation. I have so many chores to do, I don't know where to start.

1. Feed the birds
2. Clean the cat box
3. Wash dishes
4. Water the plants
5. Dust the furniture
6. Make my bed

This is only some of the things I have to do. What am I going to do? Help!

Unhappy,

Moosey-Moose Uses His Words

Hi Friends,

It has been a miserable experience playing SCRABBLE with Sleepy Bear. I was hoping to jump ahead with points when I challenged his word ARES because I was right. It's not a word! But then Sleepy Bear got all the really cool letters. I got stuck with the letter Q and a bunch of other useless letters. I don't like SCRABBLE.

And then, want to know what else happened? OK, I'll tell you. I LOST!! That is the most miserable thing to ever happen to me. Well, the second most miserable thing. The first thing was when I ordered a bunch of presents on the internet and I didn't ask for permission first. I'll never do that again.

So, now, I have to do ALL of Sleepy Bear's chores for a whole entire miserable month! And I really wanted to go on an adventure. I am not a happy camper today.

Moosey-Moose Challenges Sleepy Bear's SCRABBLE Word

Hi Friends,

Sleepy Bear made a goofy word. It's ARES. I don't think it's a real word so I'm challenging him. If I'm right, then Sleepy Bear loses his turn!!

Check back in a little bit to find out if I was right or not. My hooves are crossed!

Let the Games Begin!

Hi Friends,

What was I thinking? Sleepy Bear has been bugging me to play SCRABBLE with him. So, I finally said yes, just so he would leave me alone. I was trying to plan my next adventure.

Anyway, we just started playing. Sleepy Bear went first. He made a word that used all his letters and he got double word points and he used the letter Z and that letter is worth 10 points all by itself!!!! All I could make is a two letter word worth 3 points. Then Sleepy Bear made another word worth 12 points. That word was ZEAL. I don't even know what that means.

Can you help me make another word?

I should have agreed to play DOMINOES again.

Oh, and guess what else? The loser has to do the winner's chores for a whole month!

I need your help.

Moosey-Moose Wants to Travel

Hi Friends,

I'm so bored! I have all kinds of free time on my hands. It's great not having chores to do but now I'm running out of things to do. So, I borrowed some travel books from Kathleen to get ideas of where I want to go.

So far I've looked at a book about Rome, Florence, Boston, and the San Juan Islands. They all sound fun and I think I would have a great adventure no matter where I go. Hmmm... do you have any suggestions?

By for now,

Baby Birds Eating Lunch!

Hi!

Guess who came to my bird feeder for lunch today. Yup! Some baby birds!

This is one baby bird.

This is the first baby bird and his brother or sister.

This is momma bird feeding the baby bird! First the momma bird chews up some bird seed and then the baby bird opens his mouth and momma bird gives him the seeds she chewed up for him. That sounds super gross but that's how baby birds get their food.
I'm going back to watch the birds. I hope you're having a great day, too.

It's Summer Time and the Living is Easy

Hi Friends,

Guess who's cleaning the cat box? Yup, you guessed it! Too bad for Sleepy Bear. I guess he's not as smart as he thinks he is. Winning the 50 games of dominoes was super easy.

So, while Sleepy Bear is doing my chores, I'm enjoying summer time in my backyard with a root beer float, a comic book, and sunshine!

Oh, by the way, the birds are being birds - flying around and eating lots of bird seed. That reminds me, Sleepy Bear needs to put more bird seed in the feeders for them.

Ahhhhh, I love winning!

Moosey-Moose Plays Dominoes

Hi,

This is me playing Dominoes with Sleepy Bear. I think I'm winning. All you have to do is match the dots. The person who matches all their pieces wins the game! We got up really early today to play Dominoes because I told Sleepy Bear we would play 50 games today so we had to start really really early. Whoever wins the most games will be the best Dominoes player. And the loser will have to do his own chores and the winner's chores for one whole week! One of my chores is cleaning out the cat box! Poor Sleepy Bear.

I bet you are wondering what I'm wearing? Well, glad you asked. It's a scarf that one of Kathleen's students made for us. I really like it. It's super soft and the colors are cool, too. It kept me warm outside this morning.

Wish me luck!

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Ewie! Grossology at the Science Center sounds super gross but super cool! Just my kind of place to have an adventure. Kathleen told me about some of the exhibits. She said there was one that lets you smell different animal smells and each smell means something different. There's a smell for when an animal is angry and another for when an animal wants to be your friend. There were two more but I don't remember what they are.

Oh, there was another exhibit game that lets you match a blood color to a bug. I never knew that some bugs have blue blood and some have white and some have yellow! That is super cool!

What else did you learn at the Science Center?

I don't know about starting my own book club. It's a good idea and maybe Sleepy Bear would help me but I don't want him to think I'm trying to take away his big activity. He is super sensitive and I don't want to make him cry. Besides, he's a better reader than I am.

I'm really sorry about the two pets that died. Are you going to get new pets?

Well, I need to water the plants outside and add bird seed to the feeders. Those are two of my chores. And I can't miss a day of watering or the plants will dry up. That would not be good.

Have a fun day,

Moosey-Moose

Moosey-Moose Does Gymnastics at Home

Hi Friends,

Look! I'm getting ready to try some gymnastics. You know me, I love an adventure!

This is me getting ready to do a back flip down the stairs.

It's very tricky. You have to keep your balance. One of Kathleen's cats was watching me. I told him to watch me first, and then practice on something super soft first.

And this is me with a perfect landing in the splits. Pretty cool! Well, it was for me. Angelo, the cat, didn't listen to me. He tried to do this before he practiced on super soft pillows.
It didn't turn out so great for him. He broke his arm in two places and now his arm is in a cast! He needs to stay in his crate so he doesn't try to run around the house and do more back flips on the stairs.

Angelo is a great cat, but he really should have listened to me when I told him to practice on the pillows first!

Bye for now.

Moosey-Moose Has Guests in the Garden - Part 2

Hi Friends,

Remember the baby robins I told you about last week? Well, they aren't babies anymore!

They grew up super fast. This one is getting ready to fly out of the nest. First he made his wings move really fast like he was flying except he didn't go anywhere. I think he was just practicing.

After he practiced and practiced, the next day, this one flew out of the nest and onto the stairs on the deck. Right after I took this picture, he flew to the fence.

And this one is on a rock in our garden. He's camouflaged. Hey! That's another magnet word. Do you know what camouflage means? Look it up in the dictionary and let me know what you find out.
Well, now all three robins have left the nest. I don't think they'll come back.
It was super cool to watch them grow up from teeny tiny baby birds to almost adult size!! They sure grew up fast. I wonder what I should do with their nest? Do you have any ideas?
Be sure to check back next week for another one of my adventures!
Bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Thanks for writing. I kinda like getting mail. Except, I was supposed to answer a math question and I lost it! Sleepy Bear says I am disorganized. I don't know what he means. He always uses big words. Do you know what it means?

Well, I've been busy today watching the robins. I didn't get to see them when they were inside their shells so I don't know what color the eggs were. I wonder how long they will stay in our yard.

Are you in Sleepy Bear's book club? I'm not. It's just for girls. Maybe he'll do one just for boys, too. Oh, did I tell you I got new bookmarks? Yeah, they came in the mail today. Let me know if you want one. You can let Kathleen know if you e-mail her. Her address is Kathleen@KathleenHunterWrites.com. Be sure to ask your parents first!

Bye for now,

Moosey-Moose Has Guests in the Garden!

Hi Friends,

This is so cool! We have a family of robins living under our deck in our backyard.

This is the momma bird watching over her nest. I had to stand far away so I wouldn't scare her.

This is a picture of momma bird feeding two of her babies. Only two are showing their little bird heads. It was real tricky trying to get this picture. I had to time everything just right.
First I had to wait for momma bird to leave the nest in search of food. Then I had to wait for her to come back with a beak full of worms. As soon as she comes back, the baby birds throw their heads back and pop their beaks wide open. Momma bird shares the worms with each one.
There's a papa bird in the family that helps to guard the nest from the nearby fence. He helps find food, too. That wasn't too hard because Kathleen and her husband worked in the yard a lot digging up old plants and putting in new plants. That made the worms all come to the top of the ground.
I'll keep you posted on how they spend their day. Be sure to check back every Tuesday.
Bye for now,
Moosey-Moose

Sleepy Bears New Book Club

Hi, me again,

I forgot to tell you something.

Sleepy Bear keeps bugging me to tell you about his new book club. But wait. There's more. It's only for girls age 6-10! I guess that counts me out. He's hosting a book club with Kathleen and Sue at Mockingbird Books in Greenlake every third Wednesday of the month from 7-8pm. He says they'll have snacks, too. Hmmmm, that part sounds really cool!

Oh, one more thing. He said to bring your BABYMOUSE books to share. What's a baby mouse anyway?

Oh, read his blog on Thursdays for all the latest news about his book clubs.

OK, so now I can tell Sleepy Bear that I told you.

Bye,

Moosey-Moose

ps - boys, don't worry. Sleepy Bear will have another book club on his blog for you, too!

Moosey-Moose Works In the Garden

Hi Boys and Girls!

I bet you think I'm in the Amazon or something! What? You don't know what the Amazon is? OK, well, go look it up. You can use the computer to do research or maybe read a book about rain forests.

OK, did you find out?

Well, I'm not in the Amazon. I'm in my front yard! All the rain has made the weeds grow like crazy and it's my job to help dig them up. I don't know how I'm supposed to do that without getting my sweater all muddy. But I don't have time to go back inside to change. Oh well!

I'm ready to enter the weed patch. I have a weeder in my right hand and a shovel and a branch clipper in my left hand. The bucket behind me is were I keep all my gardening tools.

Wish me luck!

Moosey-Moose Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

I want to try to answer everyone's questions.

Let's see, the first one is asking me about Sleepy Bear's book club. Nope. I did not read his last book. Ssshhhh. Don't tell him that. I told him I was reading The Spiderwick Chronicles. but I wasn't. I was too busy feeding birds outside.

Yes, I liked visiting the Statue of Liberty. It was really neat. And it was HUGE! And Green!. I want to visit Washington D.C. I will ask Kathleen when we are going to visit the east coast again.

I'm ready for another adventure. I like to fly so I want to go someplace where I have to ride in an airplane.

I hope it's not windy tonight. I slept better last night but tonight the weather is a little bit stormy.

Well, talk to you later.

Moosey-Moose and His Butterflies

Moosey-Moose Studies Butterflies

Hi Friends,

Guess what? Today I finally saw a bird eating out of my bird seed feeder. Except it wasn't a little bird. It was a huge crow! I want the seeds to be for the little birds. One of my bird feeders is empty again. I hope the crows didn't eat all that seed, too.

I'm going to the store tomorrow to buy a book about butterflies. I want to know more about butterflies and moths and how to tell the difference.

Moosey-Moose Visits the Butterflies - Day 3

Hi Friends!

Well, I don't know what kind of butterflies these are. Some of you tell me they are moths and not butterflies. I want to know how you know the difference? They all look the same to me. And the museum called it the Butterfly Exhibit. So they must be butterflies. I'm confused now. Maybe I should do some butterfly research. Can you help me? Where should I start?

Moosey-Moose Visits the Butterflies - Day 2

Hi Friends!

Whoa! this is so cool!!! I got to see the butterflies eating their lunch - up close and everything.

Look at me! I could almost join them for lunch. But maybe they wouldn't like that too much. I guess I wouldn't like it if someone started eating my lunch without asking.
Oh, someone told me these are really moths. How do you know that? Why aren't they butterflies? I think I need to do some more research about butterflies.

Moosey-Moose Visits the Butterflies

Howdy Friends!

Whew! That was close. I had to run real fast to get away from the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Good thing I exercise at home so I can run fast! Oh, I noticed that someone called the dinosaur a T-Rex. That sure is a lot easier to spell.

After the dinosaurs, I visited the butterfly exhibit.

I got real brave and sat super duper close to this one. Maybe you can tell me what kind it is.
In my next blog I'll show you some more pictures of butterflies eating. I need to go check on my birds. I hear them making noise. Maybe they're getting ready to eat!

Moosey-Moosey Visits Dinosaurs!

Howdy Friends,

You'll never guess what I did! OK, I'll tell you. I went to the Seattle Center and saw dinosaurs. They are so huge!
This is me between the toes of the Tyranosaurus Rex. I wonder what it's like to have toes.

YIKES!! He's going to gobble me up for a snack! Good thing I can run fast.
Next time, I'll show you some pictures of me with some smaller creatures. Can you guess what they are?

Moosey-Moose Feeds the Birds Again

Hi Friends,

Just my luck. I finally get the bird seeds into the new bird feeder and I even set up the hummingbird feeder, but then it rains for two days! I'm not going to sit in the rain to wait for the birds. That would make my fur yucky. But I promise to take pictures of the birds eating when it gets sunnier and warmer!

Moosey-Moose Feeds the Birds Again

Hi Friends,

I'm feeding the birds again!

This time I'm also going to set up some food for hummingbirds. They drink a sugary water solution. Looks like Kool-Aid but it's not. So DON'T drink it. It's not good for people!

This is the special hummingbird feeder with the sugary water in it. I think I did a good job especially because I didn't spill any on my white sweater!

Next I'm going to add bird seed to a new bird feeder.

Hmmm. It's hard to eat this way. Good thing there's a place for the birds to get their seeds on the bottom tray.
Well, I'm going to go watch the birds eat now.
Bye for now,
